GAPS sets aside a sum of £5,000 annually to support the practice development of our members. GAPS Members* may apply for bursaries to fund, for example, conference attendance, setting up a work discussion group, running a workshop, or other practice development opportunities. Applications are subject to the approval of the trustees, who will consider proposals supporting practice development consistent with therapeutic, systemic and/or relationship-based approaches.
In addition to supporting practice development, during 2020/21 GAPS would like to also encourage applications for funding (or part funding) for activities which inform social work practice generally. This might include activities which engage with service users or build community if a significant aim of the work is to inform practice.
*to be eligible to apply for a bursary, your GAPS membership must have started at least 12 months prior to the date of your application.
What might you do?
Perhaps you have read about some examples of good practice in SCIE or BASW but would need some funds to get it going locally? Perhaps you have heard about some technology or spaces in another locality that could help reduce isolation in the communities you work with, but have no start up funds? Perhaps you are part of a group of volunteers who want to reach a community, but need funds to purchase PPE? You might be a group of social workers who need a facilitator or consultant to help you get a project off the ground. Perhaps you want to run an event for social worker or specific communities, but need to buy in some admin & development time? Perhaps you know a group who want to set up an advice line, but need support with broadband costs?
