Events

GAPS offers workshops, work discussion groups, and conferences to the Social Work community. GAPS events offer a space to connect and recuperate, and form new relationships with like-minded colleagues.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, we have made use of online spaces to deliver these activities and continue to offer spaces for social workers to connect, reflect and learn. In doing so we have explored the benefits of working in this way, whilst also considering what can be lost. In the future GAPS hopes to provide a mixture of in-person and online activities.

Most GAPS events are free, and, when we meet in person, lunch and refreshments are provided. Events are held around the UK. In 2018-19 GAPS visited London, Bristol, Swansea, Taunton, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Birmingham.

Online The sixth DARE symposium will be online due to government pandemic restrictions. It builds on the fifth symposium in July 2018 which brought together over 150 delegates from 20 countries including senior practitioners, managers, policy makers, researchers, regulators and social workers in education and training.

The Joint Social Work Education and Research Conference is the UK's only academic conference covering the whole of the social work field.  This three day conference aims to bring together academics, policy-makers, practitioners and people who use services (including carers).  The conference in 2020 will cover social work in all its various forms with a range of confirmed speakers to reflect this diversity.
