Neurodiversity, social work, and belonging: a lived experience

Date:

Thursday 19th March

Location:

Online

Time:

2pm-2.45pm

Cost:

Free

Presenter:

Siobahn McLean

As part of their neurodiversity campaign, and to mark Social Work Week and Neurodiversity Celebration Week, Community Care are holding this live webinar to bring together the social work profession.

The focus of the webinar will be on ‘belonging’. We will discuss how everyone has a role to play in creating and sustaining an inclusive culture, in which every social worker – whether neurotypical or neurodivergent – feels that they belong, and that their differences are celebrated rather than minimised.

Learning points
This session will:

Give insight from lived experience into the range of neurodivergent identities that exist, and how these can impact on people’s daily lives and experience of work.
Provide advice for social workers who are neurodivergent themselves on how they can harness their strengths, seek any support they need, and – crucially – feel a sense of ‘belonging’ in social work.
Empower social work managers and colleagues to consider how they can become allies to neurodivergent social work students and practitioners, and foster a sense of inclusivity and belonging in the profession.

Speaker: Siobhan Maclean.

Siobhan is a registered social worker who works as a trainer and consultant in social care and social work, as well as an independent practice educator. Siobhan is the founder of independent social work publishing company Kirwin Maclean Associates.
